Catholic High School’s African American Affinity group hosted four local attorneys and community leaders during all three lunch periods to speak about their path in the legal profession, their role in the Louisiana Justice System, and their involvement in the National Black Prosecutors Association.
Students asked the panel of speakers questions which opened up a dialogue about the ongoing fight for racial equality in the form of criminal justice reforms since last summer’s protests. Panelists discussed the steps our state is taking in order to turn those protests into policy. Panelists addressed the importance of having people of all races and ethnicities represented at every level of the legal system – legislators, judges, attorneys, and jury members – and how COVID-19 has affected the legal process for the last year.
We’d like to thank our guests for taking the time to chat with our Bears about these important social issues!
