“We are thrilled to add these four gentlemen to our Athletic Hall of Fame,” said CHS Athletic Director Ben DiPalma ’00. “In addition to their elite athletic success, we are excited to celebrate the tremendous impacts they have had on our school and the community at large. Each member of this year’s class checks both boxes, making them great additions to our already outstanding membership.”

Jason Peters, who graduated from Catholic High School in 2007, was a disruptive force on the defensive line for the CHS football team. During his time at CHS, Peters was selected to the All-District First Team twice, earned the Football Coaches’ Award in 2006, and was named Louisiana’s 2006 Gatorade Player of the Year. Peters’ impact off the field was felt schoolwide. He was a member of the CHS Honor Board and his teachers recognized him as a CHS Man of the Year in 2007. Peters continued his football career at Georgia Tech compiling more than 100 total tackles, 11.5 TFL, and 5.5 sacks. He was named to the ACC All-Academic Team in 2011.

During his senior year, Zumo was named District MVP, All-Metro, and 5A All-State Second Team. He went on to play at Loyola University during which time he was named to the All-Conference Team (2007-2008), NAIA All-American Honorable Mention (2007), and Second Team All-Louisiana (2007-2008). Zumo left Loyola as the all-time leader in three-point makes, fourth on the all-time scoring list, and was named to the school’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s. After college, he attended the LSU Health and Science Center’s Physical Therapy program and was named the Top Graduate of his class becoming the first student in the program’s history to finish with a 4.0 GPA.

Scott Yerby, CHS Class of 1993, was a standout member of the CHS soccer team from 1990-1993. During these years, the soccer program saw unprecedented success, winning three state championships (1990, 1991, and 1993). Yerby was a key player in that incredible run earning First Team All-District and District MVP, as well as First Team All-State and State MVP honors as a senior. He garnered the Most Valuable Player award at the CHS Winter Sports Convocation in 1993. Yerby graduated as Catholic High School’s all-time leading goal scorer in program history and went on to play soccer at Centenary College before being drafted to play professionally for the Lafayette Swamp Cats of the Eastern Indoor Soccer League.

Dr. Carl Luikart, a 1972 graduate of Catholic High School, was another CHS basketball star. Luikart arrived at CHS in 1968 as part of the inaugural 8th grade class.
