On June 3, senior pitcher William Schmidt was named the 2024 Gatorade Louisiana Baseball Player of the Year.
Schmidt had a memorable year finishing with a 10-0 record and over 100 strikeouts while leading the Bears to a Division I Select state championship and a No.1 national ranking. He is committed to playing baseball at LSU and will likely be selected early in next month's MLB Draft.
Each year, this award is given to athletes nationwide who exhibit excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in their community. To go along with his prowess on the diamond, Schmidt maintained a 3.60 GPA while volunteering his time with organizations such as the Miracle League of Louisiana.
