The Catholic High soccer team used a total team effort to take down top-seeded Denham Springs by a score of 3-1 and advance to state championship match next Saturday.
Cooper Allen got the Bears on the scoreboard first with a header 15 minutes into the contest. But, the Yellow Jackets were able to equalize just a few minutes later and the teams went into halftime tied at 1.
In the second half, CHS dominated the ball constantly putting pressure on the Denham Springs defense. Sean McCay and Caden Bland found the back of net for the Bears for the final margin. The loss was the first of season for the Yellow Jackets who rose as high as No. 3 in the national Max Preps rankings.
CHS will now play for the state title next Saturday at Southeastern LA University's Strawberry Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
