On Saturday March 23, the Catholic High powerlifting team competed in the LHSAA state championship meet at the Cajun Dome in Lafayette. The Bears posted four Top 5 finishes that included one fifth-place finisher, two runners-up, and one state champion.
In the 114-pound division, senior Matthew Sanders took home the individual state title after posting a meet total of 985 pounds.
At 123 and 165 pounds, juniors Anderson Le and Aidan Calkins took home state runner-up medals with total lifts of 1100 pounds and 1385 pounds, respectively.
Finally, junior Hayes Turner placed fifth in the 181-pound division with 1335 total pounds lifted.
