A dominant ground performance combined with a solid defense lead the Catholic High Schol Bears to its fifth straight win and a 1-0 district record on Friday night, beating the Liberty Magnet Patriots 58-21.
The Bears jumped out early on the Patriots, taking a 15-0 lead, but Liberty bounced back with a 93-yard TD pass to cut the lead to 15-6.
The lead would be trimmed to 10 when Liberty scored a TD just before the end of the first quarter, but after that it was all Catholic.
The Bears scored the next 35 points to open up a 58-13 lead before Liberty added a touchdown on the last play of the game for the 58-21 final score.
Junior RB Barry Remo ran the ball 15 times for 179 yards and two TDs, while Junior QB Daniel Beale went 12-18 passing for 132 yards and five TDs.
Shelton Sampson, Zach Jefferson, Amari Clayton and Nathan Schlegel all caught TD passes, while the Bears defense forced a pair of turnovers.
