CHS Baseball Wins State Championship

On Saturday, May 11 at McMurry Park in Sulphur, the Catholic High baseball team completed their historic 2024 season with a 5-0 victory in the LHSAA Division I Select State Championship game.

Senior William Schmidt led the way for CHS as the right-hander tossed a complete game one-hitter that included 9 strikeouts. Schmidt retired the final 13 Patriot batters.

The Bears got on the scoreboard early scoring four runs in the first two innings, which would be more than enough for Schmidt. Noah Lewis scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Trip Dobson. CHS scored three more runs in the bottom of the second taking advantage of some Patriot miscues. Andrew Hodges scored on a wild pitch, Lewis scored on a fielder's choice, and Brooks Wright came home on a double steal.

Jack Ruckert added the final run on an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth scoring Wright.

The Bears finished their magical campaign with a record of 38-2 winning the final 20 games of the year en route to the program's sixth state championship.
