Baseball Bears Sweep Jesuit And Head To Semifinals

This past weekend, the Catholic High Baseball team punched their ticket to the LHSAA Division I Select Semifinals after a two-game sweep of Jesuit at Grizzly Field.

In Game 1 on Thursday night, the Bears used a spectacular pitching performance from senior William Schmidt to shutout the Blue Jays 5-0. Schmidt tossed a complete game surrendering just one hit and striking out 12. The Bears' right-hander recently passed former CHS standout Aaron Nola's single-season strikeout record of 79. Schmidt has now fanned 93 batters on the season.

Friday afternoon's Game 2 saw another sterling pitching performance from senior Ryder Loup. Loup also went the distance allowing just four hits and striking out 6. The Bears' offense scored four runs in the first and fifth innings on their way to an 8-0 win. Senior Brooks Wright and junior Jack Ruckert each tallied two RBIs.

The Bears will now travel to McMurry Park in Sulphur on Thursday to take on Acadiana in one semifinal matchup. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Tickets must be purchased at https://t.co/0fF7wbImwI. No tickets will be sold at the gate. The game will also be broadcast on the NFHS Network.
