On Wednesday evening, the 2022-2023 Catholic High Basketball team received their state championship rings at a ceremony on campus. The rings were blessed by Father Trey Nelson '80, pastor of St. Jude Parish and CHS chaplain, with family and friends in attendance.
The Bears finished their historic season with a 28-6 record that included playoff victories over Rummel, Captain Shreve, and St. Thomas More to earn a spot in the state championship game for the first time since 1995. In the title game, the Bears used a furious second-half comeback to defeat perennial powerhouse Scotlandville 57-54 and capture the school’s first ever state championship in basketball.
"Your names will be remembered forever on this campus as the first team to ever accomplish this feat," Athletic Director Ben DiPalma '00 told the team during the ceremony.
