The CHS Office of Advancement is excited to announce Mr. Gerald E. "Gene" Tullier as our 2023 Catholic High School Hall of Fame Inductee!
Gene’s legacy, which encompasses 45 years with the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, is remarkable. He joined the faculty of Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, in 1978, beginning as a religion and English teacher. He went on to serve in a number of roles, including department chairperson, assistant principal, disciplinarian, vice principal and served as principal for seven years. Gene was principal when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, flooding Brother Martin and making the campus unusable during that first semester. Mr. Tullier and the Brother Martin leadership worked with Catholic High to share our campus, with CHS operating during the day, and Brother Martin operating in the late afternoon and evenings in an effort to preserve the normalcy of going to school in spite of the turmoil caused by Hurricane Katrina.
Gene began his tenure as president of Catholic High the next school year, beginning on July 1, 2006. He led the school through much-needed facilities expansions, increased real-estate holdings to serve as sources of non-tuition revenue to keep CHS affordable for future families, increased opportunities for enrollment for all students, worked to ensure that tuition assistance was available for those families who might not otherwise be able to afford Catholic education, and raised salaries for faculty and staff so that the school can attract and retain superior educators committed to this mission. In addition, he has co-authored several Brothers of the Sacred Heart pedagogical documents. These are just a few of his many accomplishments over the years.
Membership in the Catholic High School Hall of Fame honors any person, living or dead, who has demonstrated outstanding ability, leadership, character, heroism, dedication, and patriotism, and whose life and accomplishments can be an inspiration to the students of Catholic High School. We cannot imagine someone fitting this description better than Mr. Gene Tullier. Our school community will honor him during our 39th Annual Founders Banquet on December 7th in the Brother Donnan Berry, S.C. Student Center.
