Five Catholic High seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists and 10 have received National Merit Commended honors in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Roughly 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools across the nation entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The top 50,000 scorers qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship program.
Of those 50,000 students, the top one-third (approximately 16,000) qualifies as National Merit Semifinalist. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. CHS seniors qualifying as a Semifinalist are Ryan Aultman, Stephen Gaudin, Andrew Harris, Adam Langlois and Jason Marxsen.

The remaining two-thirds (about 34,000) of the approximately 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT qualify for National Merit Commended honors.
