Catholic High School To Induct Four New Men into the Grizzly Greats Athletic Hall of Fame

2026 Induction Ceremony to Take Place Saturday, August 1

BATON ROUGE, LA – May 21, 2026 – Catholic High School is proud to announce the newest members of the Grizzly Greats Athletic Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees include Mr. Tre' Hendry ’90, Mr. Michael Hendry ’03, Mr. Jason DeCuir ’93, and Dr. Jason Determann ’01.

“We are honored to welcome these four exceptional men into the Catholic High School Athletic Hall of Fame,” said Catholic High School Athletic Director Matt Shelton. “Each of these former Bears distinguished himself through outstanding athletic achievement, academic excellence, and a commitment to leadership and service. From state championships in cross country, track, soccer, and baseball to collegiate success and professional accomplishments in coaching and medicine, they represent the very best of Catholic High School.”

Tre’ Hendry ’90 was a defining figure in one of the most successful eras in Catholic High School cross-country history. As a member of three consecutive state championship teams from 1987 to 1989, he helped elevate the Bears to national prominence, earning Most Valuable Runner honors at Catholic High and Metro/District MVP recognition in his senior year. Hendry continued his collegiate career at Adams State University before transferring to LSU, where he competed on the Tigers’ record-setting Indoor Distance Medley Relay team. Following his collegiate career, Hendry devoted himself to coaching, building championship programs at Parkview Baptist with back-to-back state titles in 2002 and 2003, and later contributing to St. Aloysius. His impact on Catholic High came in two distinct tenures, from 2004–2007 and again from 2019–2024, during which he guided the Bears to multiple state championships, including track titles in 2019, 2022, and 2023 (outdoor) and 2019 (indoor), as well as cross-country titles in 2019 and 2020. Over the course of his career, Hendry has developed many of the finest distance runners in school history and has played a lasting role in sustaining the excellence of Catholic High’s cross-country and track programs.

Michael Hendry ’03 is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished distance runners in the history of Catholic High School and the state of Louisiana. During his career, he was a key contributor to state championship teams in cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field, earning All-State and All-Metro honors three times in both disciplines. Individually, Hendry captured four state titles and set multiple school records, including the composite state indoor meet record in the 1600 meters. His defining moment came at the 2003 Outdoor Track & Field State Championships, where he became the only Class 5A athlete in Louisiana history to win the 800-meter, 1600-meter, and 3200-meter events at a single state meet—a feat that remains unmatched. He was named the LHSAA Outstanding Athlete of the meet and earned recognition as the Outstanding Track Man on the Composite All-State Team. That same year, he was selected as a finalist for The Advocate’s Star of Stars Athlete of the Year. Hendry continued his running career at the University of Arkansas before transferring to LSU, where he earned NCAA All-America honors as a member of the Tigers’ distance medley relay team, competing at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Jason DeCuir ’93 was a central figure during one of the most dominant eras in Catholic High School soccer history. A four-year contributor, he is one of only two players in program history to compete in four state championship matches, helping lead the Bears to three state titles in 1990, 1991, and 1993, along with a runner-up finish in 1992. A dynamic midfielder, DeCuir earned All-District and All-State honors and remains among the program’s all-time leaders in both goals and assists. He also contributed as a football letterman, serving as the starting kicker for the 1992 team. DeCuir continued his athletic career at Howard University, where he became one of the premier kickers in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. A four-year starter, he earned Second-Team All-MEAC honors in 1994 and First-Team recognition in both 1995 and 1996. As a senior, he was named an Academic All-American and received the prestigious Ernie Davis Award, recognizing excellence in athletics, academics, leadership, and perseverance. During his time at Howard, he helped lead the Bison to HBCU National Championships in 1993 and 1996, earning MVP honors during the 1996 championship season and delivering the game-winning field goal in the Heritage Bowl against Southern University. DeCuir remains the holder of nearly every major place-kicking record at Howard and was recently inducted into the Howard University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Dr. Jason Determann ’01 distinguished himself as both a dominant pitcher and an exceptional student-athlete during his time at Catholic High School. A three-year letterman, he compiled a 10–5 career record and delivered an outstanding senior season, posting a 1.32 ERA with 136 strikeouts against just seven walks over 100 innings pitched. His performance in 2001 earned him LSWA All-State and Academic All-State honors, District 5-5A Most Valuable Player recognition, and Catholic High School’s Man of the Year distinction. He graduated with a 3.92 GPA before continuing his academic and athletic career at LSU. Over three seasons with the Tigers, Determann posted a 19–6 record and earned recognition as the 2005 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, an Academic All-American, and a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 35th round of the MLB Draft but chose to forgo his senior season to pursue a career in medicine.

The Class of 2026 will be formally inducted at the Grizzly Greats Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in the Brother Donnan Berry, SC Student Center on the campus of Catholic High School.
