Philip Primeaux Named Gatorade State Cross Country Runner of the Year
01/21/2010

Catholic High Senior Philip Primeaux was recognized for a second year in a row as the Gatorade Louisiana Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Primeaux won a second consecutive Class 5A state meet this year with a time of 16:24.1 and lead the Bears to a repeat as team champions.  He was named Baton Rouge All-Metro Runner of the Year by The Advocate and captured first place at the St. Michael Bayou Boogie, the St. Joseph’s Invitational, the Catholic High Invitational, the Walker High shootout and the Baton Rouge Metro Championship meets last fall.

Maintaining a 3.7 GPA, Primeaux is an All State singer in the school choir and a member of the National Honor Society.  He volunteers regularly at a local homeless shelter and was part of a service mission with his church on a humanitarian trip to Virginia.

“The last two years Philip has been one of the most dominant runners we’ve ever had here,” commented Catholic High Head Cross Country Coach Pete Boudreaux.  “Philip is a guy who
goes out early and puts everybody away. That’s his style,” added Boudreaux.

The Gatorade Player of the Year Award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the racecourse.

Philip is the son of Valerie and Russel Primeaux.
