CHS college counselors Sherry Brouillette and Jennifer Thibodeaux, had the opportunity to participate in SACAC Legislative Day on Wednesday, April 12, at the State Capitol. Brouillette and Thibodeaux had the opportunity to sit in on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Post-Secondary Education and listen to discussions about TOPS, cuts to higher education, college access and Board of Regents concerns. SACAC members from Catholic High School, Brother Martin High School, Tulane University, Louisiana State University, Northwestern State University and St. Louis University were able to participate in a private discussion with Rep. Reid Falconer (House Education Committee), Nick Albares (Senior Policy Analyst for the Louisiana Budget Project), Sen. Mike Walsworth (Senate Education Committee), Rep. Polly Thomas (House Education Committee) and Donald Songy (Senior Policy Advisor to the governor).

“The day went by so quickly because the discussions were so interesting. The most crucial part of the day was private interaction we were able to have with government officials regarding TOPS uncertainty and how it is affecting our students and graduates, along with the trends we are seeing as a result," said Brouillette.
