For Students
The purpose of providing this information on the CHS website is to provide you with a comprehensive guide to the college admission process. It can be a confusing and overwhelming obstacle at times, especially if the task is put off until the last minute. There is a great deal that you can do in the upcoming months. For example, you can use the time to gather information from colleges by writing them, calling them or e-mailing them. Some helpful websites are available on our site for an initial college search. College websites are wonderful sources of the most up-to-date information. We also encourage you to visit some colleges during the holidays and summer months. Many deadlines are in the early fall. In order to avoid missing deadlines and possible scholarship opportunities, it is important that you educate yourself and seek help when needed.

Each year, juniors have their initial meeting with their college counselor beginning in March, with the second visit scheduled in early fall of their senior year. For the 2011 - 2012 school year, Mrs. Thibodeaux is working with seniors whose last names begin with A - K, while Mrs. Brouillette is working with students whose last names begin with L - Z. At these meetings, the counselors will discuss the student's interests, possible college major and career plans, academic profile, test scores, and develop a list of possible colleges for him. It is recommended he come to this meeting prepared with questions and a list of colleges he has an interest in.

In May of junior year, parents and juniors receive information to log into the Family Connection Web program.  There you will be able to access a great deal of information involving tracking college applications, reviewing test scores and other information essential to college planning.

We stress the importance of staying up-to-date on college and scholarship deadlines. These will come upon you early in the fall of senior year. The College Counseling Office has a list of Guidance Department deadlines for college applications (these range between two and four weeks before the actual college deadline) at the start of senior year. To do our best possible job on the application folders we need to be strict about our deadlines.

We sincerely look forward to working with you. This is an exciting and busy time for everyone. Please browse through our Web site thoroughly so you will know what to expect and how to prepare. There is a lot of hard work ahead, but the results can be very rewarding. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
