Marlene Sheely
Marlene McGuire Sheely received her nursing degree in 1976 from Conestoga College - St. Mary's Hospital, Canada. Specializing in emergency room and cardiovascular intensive care, she worked as an R.N. and instructor in Canada, Houston and Saudi Arabia before settling in Baton Rouge with her husband, Carlton H. Sheely II. Their three children Kathryn, David '01, and Michael '04, attended St. Aloysius School, St. Joseph's Academy and Catholic High School.
In addition to various philanthropic and volunteer ministries throughout the Baton Rouge community since 1979, Marlene has served on the St. Aloysius Parish Council of Ministries 1988-1991, the Diocesan School Board (Diocese of Baton Rouge) 1997-2002, and the Diocesan Home and School Association Board 1995-2005. She was St. Aloysius Home and School co-chairman 1990-1996, St. Joseph's Academy Mothers' Club Treasurer 1995-1996, Diocesan Home and School Association President 1997-2002, Catholic Community Services Families First founder and Advisory Board Chairman 1992-2000, and Catholic High School Mothers' Club President 2002-2003.
A member of Christ the King Parish, Marlene currently serves as coordinator of the Confirmation Team. She is president of Chapter K, P.E.O. an organization supporting educational opportunities for women. Marlene received the Diocesan Home and School Bridge Award, May 2005 for her exemplary volunteer service to Catholic education, bridging the gap between home, school and community.
