Richard R. Vath

Richard R. Vath, Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, is a 1970 graduate of Brother Martin High School in New Orleans. He received his BS from University of New Orleans in 1974 and his Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans in 1977. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary / Critical Care Fellowships at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. He returned to Louisiana to the Baton Rouge Clinic where he practiced from 1983 until 2006 when he joined the senior leadership team at Our Lady of the Lake.

He became the first Medical Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Our Lady of the Lake in 2006 and in 2008 was appointed as Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer while continuing to lead the organization in continuous improvement in clinical quality and patient safety. He participated in a successful effort with LSU and the state to move LSU graduate medical education programs in Baton Rouge to the OLOL campus by 2013 and remains committed to the development of Our Lady of the Lake as a stronger academic medical center. He also recently received an appointment to the Catholic Health Association of the United States Board of Trustees for a three year term.

Richard has been very involved in his parish and the schools his three sons attended. He served as President of Our Lady of Mercy School Board, Parish Council President, and has been part of the Confirmation Team and RCIA lecturer for years at OLOM.

When his sons attended Catholic High School, he became part of the retreat team and remained active as a senior retreat adult leader for a number of years. He has served on the CHS board of directors for nine years.

He is married to Linda C. Vath and has three sons, all CHS graduates: Richard ’95, Michael ’98, and Stephen ’01.
